A Christmas Charge

(Inspired from I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day by Henry Longfellow; fist lines taken from sixth stanza of the original Christmas carol)

O souls amid earth’s busy strife,

You who play the game of life,

Can you not see your twisted fate,

Cowering under the devil’s scorn?

Shipwrecked. Lost. Alone. Forlorn.

The Word of God is light and life

Truth and love, abundant, rife

Repent, turn from the dragon’s lair.

Run far from the world’s tempting offer:

Gems, Fame and Fortune in a coffer.

Oh, hear His voice, make Him your choice,

Embrace His name, and rejoice!

Take hold of wisdom; embrace Truth.

More precious than jewels, nothing compared

To God With Us, whose life was not spared.

Hail peace on earth, good will to men.

You who choose, His love doth extend

From east to west, both far and wide.

To all mortals here on earth,

Bow to celebrate our Savior’s birth!
